How old do you think the young boys is? Person A is to take Person B on a journey. Explain everything in great detail.
-Once this is done, the roles will be swapped.
(While this exercise is occurring play some music. E.g. Crickets, flies, dogs barking etc…)

5.) Writing in Role: (15 Min)
-The teacher informs the students that the reporter was so moved by the discussions from the young boys parents, and especially from the young boy. He has asked if the young boy would like to write something to the Australian public about himself and his parents struggle on the farm with drought.

PRE-TEXT TWO

To the readers of the Daily Sun,

Hello my name is Timmy. I’m 10 years old and I live with my Mum, and Dad on our farm. You probably already know a bit about my family already. But I’m writing everyone because my family really aren’t dealing with all this heat and no rain. I know everyone in Australia is going through it too, but my parents keep fighting about the rain. I’m wondering if anyone out there knows when the rain might come? Or when this heat will go away? Or where maybe we can buy some rain to feed our animals? Everyone my family speaks to doesn’t seem to know much. So I’m asking everyone in AUSTRALIA if they might know. I hope to hear from someone soon.

From Timmy
